This site collects very little, and this page describes all of it in plain language. If something here does not match what the site actually does, that is a bug — write to privacy@explworld.com and we will fix the behaviour, not the wording.
Who we are
ExplWorld is the data controller for anything described below. Contact: privacy@explworld.com.
Analytics, and your choice about it
We use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to see which guides people read and which they abandon. It is a third-party tool operated by Google and we are not going to describe it as anything gentler than that.
It stores nothing until you say yes. Every storage category is set to denied before the tags load, and they only switch on if you accept in the banner. Declining changes nothing about what you can read here, and there is no wall, no nag and no second banner.
Your answer is remembered in your own browser. Clear your site data and you will be asked again — which is the correct behaviour, because we no longer know what you chose.
What stays in your browser and never reaches us
- Your passport selection for the visa tool and the route planner.
- Light or dark mode.
- Your reading list and recently viewed countries.
- Your cookie answer.
All of it lives in localStorage on your device. None of it is transmitted, and we could not read it if we wanted to.
Things you send us on purpose
The partner enquiry form on the Advertise page stores what you type so we can reply. That is a business enquiry, kept as long as the conversation is live and archived afterwards. Emails you send us are kept the way emails are kept.
Who processes data on our behalf
- Vercel — hosting and content delivery. Server logs, including IP addresses, held briefly for operational reasons.
- Supabase — the database behind the site, hosted in the EU.
- Google (Analytics, Tag Manager) — only after you accept.
What we do not do
We do not sell personal data. We do not run advertising networks or retargeting pixels. We do not build cross-site profiles, and we do not buy audience data to enrich anything.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct or delete it, object to processing, or withdraw consent at any time. Write to privacy@explworld.com. We answer within thirty days, usually much sooner, because there is rarely much to send. You can also complain to your national data protection authority.
Changes
When the site changes what it collects, this page changes in the same release. It is stored in the same repository as the code for exactly that reason.
