Speed limits
32 / 64 / 64 km/h · 20 / 40 / 40 mph
urban / rural / motorway
International permit (IDP)
Not required
A local visitor’s permit is mandatory - EC$60 / ~US$22, arranged on the spot by the rental company (or the Traffic Department) against your home licence.
Blood alcohol limit
0.08 % is the commonly cited limit; enforcement is light - mountain hairpins are the real deterrent
Tolls
None - no toll roads
Headlights
Low beams at night and in mountain rain showers
Child seats
Rental stock is thin - reserve ahead or bring your own for small children
Limits are lightly posted; assume ~30 km/h through villages and let the terrain set the pace elsewhere. Roads are steep and blind-cornered - sound the horn as locals do, and give buses room.
