EU licences accepted for short tourist stays, but police controls are frequent and document-hungry - the IDP smooths every stop.
0.0% - zero tolerance; checkpoints on the main rutas, especially weekends
A handful of cheap cash toll booths on Rutas 1, 2 and 7 - keep small guaraní notes handy.
Low beams at night and in rain; many drivers run them 24/7 on the rutas and it is wise to copy them.
Child restraints required for small children in principle, enforcement light and rental supply thin - bring your own seat.
Driving is easy by regional standards on the paved east - the hazards are motorbikes, cattle and sudden downpours. The trans-Chaco route is paved but services are 100+ km apart: full tank, water reserves, and never at night when the wildlife owns the road.
