0.0% - strict zero tolerance for all drivers; licence seizure on the spot

Tolls

Toll plazas on the Interbalnearia and main rutas (~€2–3 each); rental cars usually carry a telepeaje tag billed afterwards.

Low beams or daytime running lights mandatory 24/7 on all roads - enforced and fined.

Child seats

Child restraints mandatory for under-12s appropriate to size; under-12s ride in the back seat.

Roads are the continent’s best-kept secret: light traffic, decent surfaces, straightforward rules. Watch for capybaras and cattle on coastal Ruta 10 at dusk.

Rules change - verify with an official source before you rent.
